Freetown

Children spraying bullets

With American guns

Blood, bone, broken glass

Strewn about chaotically

First they wanted ivory

Then they came for gold

Now they take oil

And diamonds – prize of prizes

In the sweltering jungle

Two armies fight

In an unnamed war

No start, no finish

Women and girls raped

Men and boys abducted

The land plundered

Souls bought and sold

The weak and oppressed

Among men, women, and children

Their cry is this:

O Lord, rescue us from this place

Whose people are oppressors.

Raise for us

One whom You will protect,

One whom You will aid.
